Customer satisfaction is at the core of Oninit’s business. Many of Oninit’s customers' most mission-critical systems rely on Informix, but these can be hard to manage thanks to declining skills, which are now often ageing and sometimes unable to support the future enterprise strategy.
Oninit works to understand fully its customer's needs and supply the right Informix services to fit each customer’s unique demands ranging from Informix training and Informix technical support to optimisation enhancement and development, or use of Informix DBA services.
Some of Oninit’s happy customers are outlined below. They span many different industries and business types, including energy and utilities, and banking and financial services organisations.
Pan European Potato Enterprise (PEP) Ltd is a leading producer and exporter of seed and table potatoes delivering to a global market. PEP manages a high volume of perishable products so it is essential that the company can strategically manage and tightly control movement across international boundaries, safely and on-time. PEP is able to achieve this by relying on the skills of Oninit to provide ongoing support, enhancements and maintenance of the back-office systems running on Informix. “A long-term customer of Oninit, we called on them again to develop a new web-based system and incorporate our ideas. Oninit worked closely with us to come up with the system we needed.” – Vincent Lumb, Seed Manager, PEP Ltd.
A F Carpets is a family-run custom roll flooring stockist based in Lincolnshire, offering a large product range from its shop and warehouse to domestic customers in and around the area. The company had been relying on an ageing bespoke computer system to manage all its stock control and day-to-day business operations; the application was part of its integral business environment. When the system finally crashed, A F Carpets was left with little hope of full data recovery. A F Carpets contacted Oninit to assist with migrating the legacy business application, Informix, onto a new platform and get the business up and running after a major hardware failure. “Oninit has revolutionised our business and brought it back to life with enhanced software that is faster, more reliable, easier and cheaper to maintain-- life without Oninit would be truly unbearable!”– Mel Harris, Managing Director, A F Carpets.

Pilot Systems provides Smart Metering technology and services. It works with partners to provide enterprises with accessibility to fiscal energy metering and to give end users energy information in a form that drives greatest savings at least cost and effort. All UK meter vendors use CHIRPS, Pilot Systems’ meter communications tool, for reading and writing data objects to and from their equipment. CHIRPS needed a database with which it could interface to populate tables with register readings and half-hourly data. It had traditionally used SQL calls and CSV file imports to a number of databases. Pilot Systems found using the API into Informix much simpler and faster, with multi-channel retrieval and lower demands on system resource. “Dovetailing this in with the IBM Informix platform results in a powerful business solution for smart metering.” – Nigel Orchard, CEO, Pilot Systems
Centric iSolutions’ CLiP iMessageHUB functions as a unique staging area that manages all aspects of a bank’s SWIFT messaging from various back office applications. Centric needed a reliable database platform and high-performance hardware to drive the solution and a partner that could support the infrastructure. It chose IBM Informix Dynamic Server from Oninit to provide the licences, hardware and implementation expertise and to provide 24x7 monitoring and management. Oninit is an integral part of Centric’s customers’ ability to rely on the consistent running of their Centric iSolutions environment. “Informix Dynamic Server is so reliable it can run more or less unattended – there’s no need for a team of database administrators to optimise and tune it all the time.” – Robert Dant, Founder, Centric iSolutions
Storey Carpets provides carpets and flooring materials to individuals and business. It relies on a number of IT systems to manage its supply chain, warehouses and logistics. With customer satisfaction critical to the company’s success it needed to manage the large number of daily transactions effectively with highly reliable IT systems. Its existing infrastructure was struggling to cope. Storey Carpets chose Oninit to upgrade to a new solution to improve capacity, performance and disaster recovery. Oninit integrated Informix Dynamic Server 11 with existing sales order processing, logistics and warehousing systems, bringing 10 percent savings on IT costs, near-instant response times and synchronised databases between servers without affecting production performance. “Oninit listened to what we wanted and gave us some really expert advice. We were soon convinced they would be the right partner for the project and they quickly became an integral part of our project team.”
A London-based corporate finance firm was experiencing a period of growth through a number of acquisitions. With the acquisitions came systems running on bespoke applications built using Informix 4GL, which IBM no longer supported. The firm had not the in-house skills to manage the new system and recruiting these skills would be not only costly but difficult. Oninit provided remote DBA services with pro-active any version systems monitoring, management and support. The firm incurred no overheads, needed no permanent resource and acquired the peace of mind that its Informix systems were running seamlessly. Having successfully worked with Oninit on application support, the firm took advantage of other Informix services to replace existing spreadsheet systems and to extend the life of legacy Informix applications.
Oninit’s customer, a major UK domestic gas services provider, needed a new system to deal with its growing customer base, one that would enhance the company’s ability to manage its client data. It had quickly outgrown the spreadsheet system it had been using and asked Oninit to develop a new, efficient and robust workflow solution. Oninit recommended Four J’s Genero, which automates reporting and laborious manual processes. Working with Genero, Oninit was able to develop and deploy within two weeks a new application that speeds up processes and reduces errors, helping the customer exceed its SLA requirements.
One of the UK’s largest and oldest banks had acquired a smaller organisation whose systems were built on Informix Dynamic Server v7. Its need was to migrate these systems onto its own database platform. Although the organisation had a project team in place that was working with live trading systems transacting £6 billion of business per hour, it did not have Informix expertise. With these high levels of transaction data the two banks could afford no downtime at all, so they turned to Oninit to plan and implement the migration and provide 24/7 support. The migration took four days, during which time both banks continued to operate uninterrupted.
A large international bank with operations in the Middle East was running mission-critical applications on hardware that was about to go out of support. Informix Dynamic Server v7 was supporting its account holder authorisation and ledger routines and running half of the ATMs in the capital city. The company needed to upgrade the hardware and operating system fast, but keep its existing IDS v7 platform. System reliability was vital and Oninit was brought in to perform the migration. Oninit advised on the specifications for the hardware and planned the migration project. The project was complete without having to take the bank’s systems offline.
The equities arm of a leading financial services provider was struggling to manage its growing client base using its existing spreadsheet system which was being fed from the disparate systems of its brokers. This was starting to compromise data security and become time consuming. A multi-user application was required and the firm, having experience of the flexibility and robustness of Informix on other systems, turned to Oninit to provide a bespoke, secure and easy-to-manage Informix-based system.
