What’s not to like?

Informix has a vast number of users around the world, numbering in the millions. It is known as the lowest maintenance database around (“set it and forget it” is a frequently used phrase) as well as one of the fastest and most flexible. It is remarkably easy to set up, simple to use, hugely efficient and greener than its rivals. It is multi-platform, hugely extensible, super-scaleable and easily embeddable. Oh yes, and you can play with it for free.

Incredible potential

Informix is a database which can actually keep up with your imagination. The native time-series and geodetic data types in Informix offer a world of potential for new applications that are spot on for today’s business needs. Alongside Informix’s inbuilt speed advantages come the possibility to process and extract value from vast quantities of data delivered from today’s smart technologies. Some great examples are already emerging in smart metering but the surface has yet to be scratched on the potential of Time Series data to reveal new views of information. The potential of the native Geodetic and Spatial data types in Informix as tools to create real-world applications is as yet largely untapped too – a huge opportunity for developers.

A real community

Developer editions benefit from community support – and what a community it is. The International Informix User Group forms connections between Informix developers and users on a global basis and provides many discussion forums and there is an active UK chapter. IBM DeveloperWorks regularly posts useful technical articles and information for developers and there is active discussion on its technical forums.
