Simple Informix Application Upgrades

Upgrading Informix applications to run on newer, faster and enhanced versions of Informix can pay dividends in terms of performance and cost. Or, it can provide access to some of the powerful management tools integrated into later versions, such as the OpenAdmin Tool or Informix Flexible Grid. Oninit can support upgrades to the degree its customers want. It can simply undertake an upgrade review or consultation, to help the customer plan their upgrade process and ensure accurate licensing. It can provide a complete end-to-end upgrade service or simply a technical support service, with experts on hand to help as needed throughout the process.

Informix Application Porting

Customers who are upgrading or switching hardware platforms often require help to port Informix applications to the new system. Informix’s flexibility makes this easily possible as long as the technical skills are there, and Oninit supports customers to do this, upgrade their Informix system if needed, and protect and backup their data during the process. Oninit can also advise and help with the updating of licenses which often need adjustment for the new environment.

Informix Application Tuning

Informix applications can often be made easier to manage with slight adjustments. Although many companies don’t have the skills to do this in house, Oninit has yet to come across an Informix application which could not be enhanced and fine tuned to deliver more than before.

Informix Application Modernisation

Oninit helps customers to enhance their applications for improved speed and performance, to modernise them to meet new integration challenges or simply to make them more cost effective. Oninit has estimated that 80% of application users use less than 20% of its capability – so it makes sense to identify that crucial 20% and make sure it performs better. Simple enhancement activities can be conducted rapidly, often in under a month, and for extremely low cost.

Legacy platforms - Oninit’s partnership approach means it can go even wider and it regularly works with partners on legacy application modernisation projects on older platforms including AS400, and legacy operating systems such as Solaris, SCO and other flavours of Unix.   

Multi-database environments - Many enterprise systems are or become multi-database over time, and Oninit also partners with many consulting firms with specialist skills around other database technologies including DB2, Oracle and MS SQL Server.
