In most commercial software applications, the database environment is a single point of failure
If the database is unavailable then your software application will either not work at all or not work properly. Database systems generally are designed to achieve very high levels of availability – unfortunately system failures or critical errors will happen and when they do your continuity strategy will be put to the test.
A continuity strategy is focused on understanding how to respond to the most common failure scenarios in a controlled and predictable way. A continuity strategy should never be based on a single approach and there should always be a fall-back recovery procedure which is fully understood, fully documented and regularly rehearsed.
The backups we create for our clients are proactively monitored and maintained to ensure data is always easily recoverable.
